Volumetric weight
— desi
Fill in all three dimensions to calculate.
Desi is the volumetric weight of a package. Carriers multiply width, length and height in centimetres and divide by a fixed factor. The factor depends on whether the shipment is domestic or international.
Domestic shipments
(W × L × H) ÷ 3,000
Used by Turkish carriers for shipments within Turkey.
International shipments
(W × L × H) ÷ 5,000
Used by express carriers such as DHL, UPS and FedEx for cross-border shipments.
Measure
Measure the width, length and height of the package in centimetres at its widest points.
Multiply
Multiply the three values. Example: 40 cm × 30 cm × 20 cm = 24,000.
Divide
Divide by 3,000 for domestic shipments. 24,000 ÷ 3,000 = 8 desi.
Round up
Carriers usually round fractions up to the next whole number: 3.2 desi is billed as 4 desi.
Carriers compare the actual weight of the package in kilograms with its volumetric weight in desi and bill whichever is higher. A light but bulky parcel is charged by desi; a small but heavy parcel is charged by weight.
